Neither the controlled
nor the powerful
can hold ahead,
comfortable fore,
under their hairy integration:
put together is willed as part
of a line that holds
tempers, useful
distemper, used
explaining that this
is how it is.
The vagueness of that so-called noun
can be found again
in the stare at space
that sees only blight and stark
on blue nights
and yelled days.
Under and over
do not go down easy
whether chicken sat
or egg cracked
or rooster spoke up
over the rest of the yard.
Each suffers the distinct
plinked until the instrument
can play
at the supposed behest
while really giving
secret minds rest
from the scam sham that is
one decides
two does or does not.
