Giving In To Memory

Memory is a searcher
with poor posture,
indeliberate,
simple with its verbs,
scanning for an eye
to be watched by.

That's what's meant by
a legacy: it's one rememberer
being co-remembered,
comemorated they say,
by other sources
of marked time.

Give it what it wants,
the hungry record,
or it will scratch
and shatter even the
best album, to spite
the slightest smell
against the most
well-pictured face.
