Present Past Past

Bygone exhortation do us an anachronistic disservice:
history said we ought
and thus we fought;
today is a new today
and the past is only a prologue to memory.

Recipes are heuristics
that drive biased cars
to horse-drawn paintings;
transcend the ingredients list
and the concomitant procedure;
build newness on top of death
and look forward to whenever
breath can no longer recede
from lungs who have fed our light.

Blossoms indicate:
it's not over until smoke
doesn't mean fire,
as oxygen means
there's still a chance
to turn the wheel
and make another history
into someone's new future.
