Eyes Closed Is Not Alone

What does a night become when dark titles are all that appear
one could release the evening to tomorrow and hope for
a change of season between now and then

that would be like the ostrich
and after age whatever you have that object permanence
one of the worst things we were taught, almost as bad
as reason or guilt and all apiece

gather together with eyes closed
and you'll see everything nearby 
whether it's a crowd
or four walls and an aching middle.
