Cell Self

Every day
Millions of living things
Living not just inside of me
But as me
Die
Falling away
Replacing each piece of timber
With fresh wood
And I'm somehow the same ship
Yet this is unsatisfying
I am a different ship
I should have to choose a new name
Every time
Every one
Of my living beings
Has passed away
My constitution
Entirely rewritten
Though in some pattern
Perhaps I should take my name from my genes
But apparently those change too
So what's really here
Prevailing over time
To be measured against
To say what it means
And mean what it says
A temporary band
Of pirates
Dying against the Crown's cannon
King Time
Bringer of the End
Undefeated
Except perhaps
By the constituent components
The selves
Of cells
Which never die
Are only continuously reborn
In other greater wholes
Serving other purposes
Time majestic as well
Gets down on one knee
To the complete whole
For no concept
Can overrule
That which contains
All concepts
That whose self
Includes every cell
Living or dying
