Foothill Symbiosis

Jeffrey pines
for higher blues

suckling what nutrients
the clay may affect

to hide until boulders
and ravenous shocks.

The mountain's lions
encourage height;

anyone too tall to eat
may as well tower

over cub-alpine shade.
