To Become Broad Enough

At first I thought deep or wide
would be deep and wide enough.

It is breadth, though,
that can match the map of the cosmos
to the territory of my mind.

And this topography is no paradox
even in the face of sickness
of misery
of the patterns of pain

whose spiked shoes are walking
on the back of my brain.
