From Many Voices

When I think of poetry
I want to be the best poet
or find a restful ledge
and stop my climb.

False choices are bacteria
bloodstreaming through my mind
and my pencil
telling my fingers
we are many
you are few
.

My fingers
have to laugh.
These cocky bacilli
are underneath my skin.
