Death

Did you say
breath?

Lest we lunge
into our lungs,

lunch with me
slowly.

We never know
how many more

times.
Grieve the whispers

that can no long fail
to vibrate across the kitchen.

We must train
to be little yellow birds.

A pair of finches
sing death

into the rain.
