The Dogs Were Several and Angry

Was I so Crete inattentive
to miss a few thousand olive
years and a hundred billion
brilliant rocks by wine-light
the oyster-lucid lake call
it a lake and it will shake
its wrist at your octopus
and ask why did you
think it was right
for time to get
away with nothing
and land on finished land
surrounded with need
