vertigo; it's not something one says
until after the feeling is gone
because the sensation shuts down
the thinking senses
and so you are here
at the edge of this cliff
and by you I mean me
watching what could come next
uncertain about the gravity
dynamics of this planet
and not sure whether there
are rocks in this water
maybe a wind will blow
and make this decision for me
but that is too much to hope
for I am solidly planted against
such an eventuality
instead, I will surf the moment
without moving
and ebb the anxiety
undo the avoidance
and watch my motionless fate
crawl out from under its stone
and smile to be free
