Midwest Chill

Big Easy may bear
Warm bayou breezes
Melodic ecstasy
Spilling into streets

Iowans know quite another
Way of living most casual
Cares flow no further
Than family's backyard

Crawfish unknown
But fish fries delight
Warmth without reason
Nice without bite

Cold winter evenings
Fires warm numb hands
Take off your boots
Curl up the night

Judgement abounds
Though pressures do not
Retreat to the lake
Forest hugs tight the eyes

Dance in a square
Rather than under a sax
Frenchman Street may call
But the farm lacks reception
