Do You Remember Life by the Ocean

I ask myself rhetorical questions
about the past, about memory
to confirm that I was there

and wonder which parts of me
are still here: sitting next to fresh
water imagining I taste salt,

seeing a sunset while the sun
remains high disgorging
truth in exchange

for the feeling that pretending and
forgetting have not only the same
flavor, but also report to the same god.
