Braised in Captivity

The freedom branch
was cut from the family
tree.

It was relative,
but just as with blood,
a metaphor for similar
bites. Barks are hoarse
from the singeing, softened.

Enough time at elevated
heat, and softness becomes
tenderness becomes
ready to fall apart.
