Distraction

I do my best
to listen but
I wander, I
ponder, I
squander my
attentive coinage.

These dimes are
unpaid crimes
against speakers;

I creak like an old
house at three fifteen
in the morning,

wreaking avocation
on the sidelong
edges of my
shadow eyes.
