When I think of poetry
I want to be the best poet
or find a restful ledge
and stop my climb.

False choices are bacteria
bloodstreaming through my mind
and my pencil
telling my fingers
we are many
you are few.

My fingers
have to laugh.
These cocky bacilli 
are underneath my skin.
