A Fingernail’s Edge (Bitten Off)

A tiny piece of what we can see;
the definition of every vision.

Derision is one response
friendly to the nihilist.

Awe summed furious desire
fires the unretired buyer.

A middle hound mounts
the edge of the mountain

a few feet into the foothills
whose creek swells down

like a fountain of moderate
escape. The ground fizzes

only as groundless as the
mind on the mound

pitching the picture
of October as sober

as the hand that
bites rock and finds

surprise teeth
can chew.
