I am not a novelist

Poems are not like novels.
No poem worth its halt
could take an author months
to author. Revision
become derision
after over a week.

And the act of scratch
could only match
the hot time
of one coffee's cup.

Plot overwhelms
the poet's cause.
Causes cause poetry
to sneeze, allergic
to reasons for being.

If the poet is stuck to Hamlet,
the pen's flight will not be
to page. The poet may rage.
Providing that rage
serves ink to page.

Poems are novel, however,
even as copies.

The mix of reader
and written
cannot achieve
the repeatability
of the baker,
not at this
altitude.
