Can poems replace
the journal? A diary
can be as fiery as
the hand that holds
the brand. A poem
speaks circumspection.
A poem's inspection
of the property
meanders from
crawl to stall to
fallen trees,
creaking with
the old walls
of the old house
standing guard
against unknown
elements. This porous
house lets in the outside
enough to give the weather
the taste of the time of day.
As long as the poem follows
the sneeze, it can breeze
through notebooks the
way the journal once
pathway unhid.
