The Dignified Conversion of Shame into Guilt

What have I done
asks for forgiveness
from the great wide blue space
instead of from the harmed.

You were harmed
says what you could have meant
and creates the possibility of restitution
and reconstitution.

So many syllables
to address the address
where one can no longer
go.

Failing only counts
if it adds up
to a thing done wrong;
consequences counted for another.

Numbers, past a point,
can only
lead
to numbness.

Prepositions have a similar
nearness
to them,
according to space.

Severity holds the hand that bit it
and might be forgiven
for thinking
instead of feeling.
