Structure may not be a column of spine
but it does permit rows to rest each other's bones.
While one may not be equal to another one,
two can carry on a conversation about addition.
Verse need not win or lose to play the versus
game, a distraction, subtraction, inaction,
held constant, as text, above previous blank space.
Erasure and blotting make rots clots, decays sway,
mushrooms arrive on the heels and shoulders
of death and its comparative stoppages.
Finality is a pause, a banality, craning its
broken neck toward another way of seeing,
unless the vision adapts to the situation:
eye cells, formerly officially two,
presently casually as many as they become.
