Learn, Poet

I heard once in a class
that poetry was once a tool for learning.
I edited the sentence
to remove "was once"
and out the door once more.

To poetize is to use ear eyes
and nose your way to depth.
A poet's chore is unsensed stores
these deconstructive romps.

Each verse a pupil and professor
a loop of physical math
the mind and body
stiff and shoddy
limbered by incantation
to solemn play's integration.

It's an act, that's action,
a theatre of didaction,
command of comma bones
divide the ligaments from the meat
and meaning muscles tone.

I heard once that poetry had class
and now I am enrolled.
