Book No Dissent

overrides the fact
that the last page
has already been written
by the time the book's in hand.

Don't flatter your shelf.
A stack of tomes is the tomb of Rome,
an empire from someone else's time. 
Now the collection
is a cultural curio shack
shaken from the branches
of a private library tree.
