to say that I have distaste
for ranking
would be to understate
the depth of my feeling
about valuation

controlling myself,
I find words for how
determining what is
better than what
is of a lower quality
than not doing so

and there I go
a valuator
determining
identifying a score
making the numbers
fit the feelings
that flow through me

perhaps there is no escape
for that would be to leave
something behind that is worse
I say anyway
that it is too simple
to say that one thing
can be better than another
