The only subject I'm qualified to sit for a doctorate in is motion studies I can tell you all about the friction one experiences after six and a half hours of walking And the notions that one comes up with when one has been on a bike for all the waking hours The feeling of speed And the feeling of slow I can translate into any language That the body can make Except for the super-specialized ones But they don't ask about those in the dissertation defense So I'll get my big weird hat After talking about what it means to cross a street in a different city every week Jaywalking or calmly obeying the law How to run along to get somewhere on time How to lose track of time in one's body, other than the relative time since that last sip of water And then I'll do research And publish The maps of the motion And I'll make theoretical and empirical strides in the field All the while inspiring the next generation of amateur and professional motionists Living through each stage From romantic motion To a blue period To the post-modern motion movement Full of mirrors And electronics And luddites Walking barefoot Through the meadows that remain Aware of every step
