Two Saplings

I watch the both of you
Struggle under the weight of spider webs
Survive days in a cooler in a car
Surmise your places in the world
On this porch
On this table
Blowing over in a strong wind
One of your thrives
Leaves bouncing and trunk strong
Two tongues of life, forking to the sky
The other
This twin
Has all but passed from the world
Death a suffocation of crispy leaving
Sagging next to new life
Overcome without the spark
And yet I shall plant you together
For the spark may yet be dormant
And our lives need remembrance
Well after they're over
