The Birds and the Trees

I see skies anew
Clouds of light

Red noses too
And I listen to myself
What a natural world

At home deep in itself
Thrown into the water
Swimming so gently
Cooing, hooting, calling

I see ducklings fluff
Swimming off to school
Dodging fish teeth
And possums
In the shade of the mid-day leaves

Mother duck watches
Sunning and wary
Hurrying away
From anything scary

Outlooks are green
And a little blue
Strawberries with cream
Without any shoes

People walk by animated
Powerful conversation
Seeing the words pass by
Takeout without reservation

I'm the last to fly
To a coop on yonder beach
Rather I hang tied
Floating between two trees
