Survival

Two parts randomness
One part speed
Three parts adaptation
Seven parts promiscuity
Many parts belief
In continuity through offspring
Is it quite a goal?
Or just an accident sometimes
It certainly doesn't seem to require
Any parts 401k
Or even money per say
Though being able to exchange
The most fungible of tokens
Certain does make it easier
To get food
And clean water
And to places
That have more breathable air
But survival is certainly no imperative
For it's certainly not going to last
As there's only one certainty
Outside of taxation
Thus my certitude
My conviction and faith
That I will not be the fittest
I will not survive
And even should I have offspring
Whose procreation chain continues
For thousands of years
I expect that survival
Will certain end
At the hands of some oxygen leak
Or radiation wave
Washing over a spaceship
Heading into the stars
Though I suppose my progeny stardust
Will find a new home
And one day survive
To become life once more
