The fire will wash away these painful memories, I thought. The beach where extroversion is punished with the most reciprocal socializing, that’s the place for the yearbooks, the pictures, the dresser. All the items will go the way of the dinosaurs and turn into ether that will turn into air that will turn into oil that can again be burned, but more efficiently. And the memory will become energy, thermodynamically draining away into the heat death of the universe, making room for a life with a little less heat. That was the idea. Of course, it wasn’t real.
