About Driving

If a skid has not been steered into
One may not become a better driver
For driving is improved
Through the metabolism
Of miles and miles of ice
And hydroplaning
And avoiding imminent crashes
And having a few crashes

And while I'd prefer to never drive
If I must
I shall be better for the moments of stress on the road
For the surprise construction site with poorly indicated lane reductions
For the bird that wants to leave this world behind through a front wheel
For the deer that's looking for a headlight kiss
And while I shall not look for these moments
I shall embrace them as they arrive
And turn them into opportunities to be a better driver
As they disappear into the rear view mirror
