Pandemic Solitude

Gone are the cozy blankets
Of coffee shop sounds and smells
Humanity's press of nearness
Avoided lest grimness rise higher

One bedroom apartment sparse
Two plants
Eleven books
Vegetables

Quiet street drifts in open windows
Snatches of the same conversation
Calm dogs lead nervous people
Seeing their neighborhood slowly

Among the trees I ponder
Through strange times values prism
The moment and the future
The mind and the act

Reason's thoughtful melody
Resounds across the flat
A single mind's repose
Between vigorous repasts

Simple life made narrower
Complexity fades away
Valuing what is as is
Willing not a change
